Practical Striking
Our Practical Striking class is designed to help students build confidence, coordination, and effective stand-up skills in a safe, supportive, and beginner-friendly environment. Whether you're completely new to martial arts or looking to complement your jiu-jitsu training, this class provides a practical introduction to the striking side of self-defense.
Each class focuses on fundamental punches, kicks, footwork, movement, and defensive concepts through structured drill sequences that gradually build speed, accuracy, and muscle memory. Students spend much of the class working through combinations with a partner before having the opportunity to throw those same combinations on focus mitts and kick pads held by an instructor. This allows students to experience the timing, rhythm, and power of real strikes without the risks that come with live sparring. One of the things that makes this class especially approachable is what it doesn't include. Students do not spar with one another or exchange strikes. Instead, partner drills involve light contact by touching gloves to reinforce timing and movement while maintaining a safe learning environment. Classes conclude with energetic two-minute rounds where instructors call combinations for students to throw on pads, providing a fun, challenging finish that builds conditioning, confidence, and fluidity under pressure.
Whether your goal is improving your overall fitness, becoming a more well-rounded martial artist, learning practical self-defense, or simply trying something new, Practical Striking offers an engaging way to develop real skills in an encouraging atmosphere where everyone can progress at their own pace.
